Wharfedale has just launched the Evo 5 Series — a complete refresh of its award-winning Evo 4 range. The aim? Improve on a mid-range speaker line that already punched above its weight.
It still offers the same mix of performance, finish and value. But Evo 5 brings upgrades from Wharfedale’s high-end Elysian series to deliver more detail, control and refinement.

Here’s what’s changed:
• Larger AMT tweeter - Now 35×70mm (up from 35×60mm). That means wider dispersion and lower distortion. High frequencies sound clearer and more open.
• Improved internal damping - A new material called SilentWeave reduces unwanted resonances inside the tweeter assembly.
• Redesigned midrange dome - Still fabric, still fast — but now even more natural and lifelike with vocals and acoustic instruments.
• New crossover design - Tighter integration between the drivers. Transitions sound smoother, and stereo imaging is more precise.
• Updated cabinets - Slightly larger and more heavily braced. That gives the bass more authority and stops the cabinet from colouring the sound.
• Refined looks - Same general design as Evo 4, but neater finish and subtle styling improvements.
The end result? More detail, better dynamics, and a cleaner overall sound — without losing the easy-going character that made Evo 4 so popular.

The Line-Up
There are five models in the Evo 5 range. Something here for every room and system.
• Evo 5.1 - The smallest speaker in the range. Ideal for desktop or bookshelf use. Clean, agile sound in a compact cabinet.
• Evo 5.2 - A larger standmount. Adds a dedicated midrange driver for improved clarity and depth.
• Evo 5.3 - Slim floorstanding speaker with a 3-way design. A great all-rounder for medium-sized rooms.
• Evo 5.4 - Full-sized tower. Big bass, big soundstage. A strong choice for serious hi-fi listening.
• Evo 5.C - Dedicated centre speaker for home cinema setups. Clear dialogue, focused delivery.

Evo 4 vs Evo 5
If you’ve already got Evo 4, you’re probably wondering if Evo 5 is worth the upgrade.
Here’s the quick version:
• The sound is cleaner, especially in the treble
• Imaging is sharper, especially with well-recorded material
• Bass is deeper and better controlled
• The build is slightly better all-round
• The price hasn’t changed much
Evo 5 doesn’t reinvent anything. But it’s clearly a more refined product. If you liked Evo 4, you’ll love Evo 5.
Why It Matters
Wharfedale knows how to deliver serious performance at a sensible price. Evo 5 proves that again. It brings high-end tech to the mid-range market — without compromise.
Whether you’re building a new stereo system or upgrading your surround sound setup, Evo 5 is worth a listen.
